Education and training for health professionals

GSI intends to run comprehensive education and training programs for health proffessionals working in the fields of Cleft, Lip and Palate. We will have training seminars targetted especially at health proffessionals working in rural or isolated areas. We will also organise conferences.

Women empowerment programme

Cleft, Lip and Palate is very common with children and adults based in rural areas of northern nigeria. It is a common practice to see women begging for alms with their children or adult men and women doing the same. Parents of children having cleft complications have visited our medical facility and they refuse to come back for admission because the use their cleft complications to beg for alms.

GSI is addressing this by providing necessary information relevant skills to the mothers of children with Cleft, Lip and Palate or persons affected so that they will be able to have an alternative source of income thus improve the quality of their lives, family and community at large.

Worshops will be provided to women with Cleft, Lip and Palate complications who are yet to decide whether they want to be operated on or not, their children and those already operated on. This is because GSI believes that when women are equipped with skills, they look at options and make good decisions that will help them as well as their families.
