About Us

Grassroot Smile Initiative is a Non- Governmental Organization that provides free Cleft Lip and Palate surgeries in partnership with the Smile Train.We have a dedicated Cleft Team comprising of; Maxilolofiacial Surgeons, an ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon, a Pediatrician, Anesthesiologists, Mental Health Experts, Social Workers, Pediatric Nurses, Researchers and Volunteers).

Grassroot Smile Initiative is an NGO which was established by Professor Adetokunbo Rafel Adebola and Mrs Feyisara Adebola in 2006 and became a partner with Smile Train in 2008 .

Apart from the cleft operations performed by the GSI Team, the NGO focuses on providing nutritional support to patients before and after their surgeries, speech therapy and orthodontic treatment are also extended to patient with further challenges.

GSI also focuses on empowering the mothers of cleft patients (FADEP), providing alternative nutritional supplements to malnourished babies, community mobilization, oral health outreaches and cleft research and training.

GSI has also partnered with CSADI, an indigenous non- governmental organization in Kano to provided a cheaper and natural alternative for mothers that cannot afford milk or have low breast milk supply. Garin Bul Bul is Nafdac Approved and is safe for consumption.
